Traveling solo is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. And it is hard to explain but it is kind of like having a wave of happiness overcome your body while at the same time everything goes into slow motion, and in that VERY moment you realize that you are a bad ass. You are a world traveler who can’t be stopped. You are a do-er, a dreamer, an achiever, an awe inspiring being that did something so many people are scared to do and you smashed that fear in the face with fierceness. Solo travel is something you should to at least once in your life and each time you do it, you will learn something new about yourself.

Why You Should Travel Solo
You will see some amazing things and you will appreciate the smaller things even more. And the amazing things aren’t just the sights, sometimes the amazing comes from within you. Everything you do on a solo trip is your choice and in doing that you will find yourself making decisions you never thought you would! Before you know it, you might be heavily considering bungee jumping (but you don’t actually do it). But the idea is that you have complete freedom in a way you probably never have before, so you will see amazing things and you will do amazing things.
You will be inspired. By the people you meet, the food you eat, the culture you see… it will all inspire you. And you will inspire yourself. Traveling alone makes you think differently, see the world through a different lens, and when all is said and done you will be left breathless.

You will find yourself, even if you were never looking. And you will find yourself in the most unexpected moments and places. You will find yourself in a park watching people, in the book you brought with you because you wanted to look busy on the plane, or you might even find yourself crying as you walk down the street in Paris wondering how on Earth you will or wont tell your parents you flunked a semester of college (more on that another day). No matter how it happens, it will and you probably wont even know you were looking for yourself when it does.
You will never regret it. Ever. No matter how shitty the trip, how many flights were canceled, how sick you got, or how you never went to that restaurant you read about on Lonely Planet I promise you that you will never regret taking the trip. The money you spent? Maybe. But never the actual trip because you will learn something along the way that will make it worth it in the end.

You just need to go out and do it. Pack a bag and go. I think we can all agree that there are milestones and rites of passage in life. Some of those are a little more obvious than others like your first day of school or a school dance, hell even a promotion at work is a milestone. But taking at least one trip alone is one too. It is something everyone should do. And I’m not saying it has to be an “Eat, Love, Pray” or “Wild” kinda trip, thought those are pretty rad. You just need to do it because once you do, nothing else seems impossible.
What are you waiting for? Go see the world!
