I’ve never really been one to stick to New Year’s resolutions. I can’t really get behind a commitment that I didn’t care enough to try before, so I’ve just never bothered with them. But this year, Tim and I decided we would do a travel destination resolution bucket list if you will.
Travel Bucket List
Tim and I have both been dying to go. We thought about it last year before commercial flights started, but never really got around to it. It is so close to us that we’ve thought about going a few times this year- one weekend at a time. On this list for places we want to see? Everything Hemingway, Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, and Castillo de los Tres Santos Reyes Magnos del Morro. This trip tops the 2017 Travel Bucket List because we’ve been wanting to go for so long now!
Tim was born in Germany while his dad was stationed there with the US Army. His parents tell us storied of what is was like living off base, live in Germany as Americans barely old enough to drink, and small towns with picturesque views. I have a few friends sprinkled across Germany so our goal is to make it over there to visit this year. It is hard to narrow down what cities to visit, though.
Neither one of us has been to the PNW and we want to change that. Can you imagine how amazing a road trip from Florida to Portland would be? All the amazing things you would see! And my oh my how long it would take… But in the end totally be worth it.
The first time I went to Vermont was when I was in college working as a nanny. The family I worked for was from the area and we went up one cold winter break to visit. I have been in love with state ever since! With Ben and Jerry’s calling the state home, maple syrup production, AND cheese Vermont is a state after my own heart. I keep trying to convince Tim we should move there and a trip to visit is the first part of my master plan to do so!
Though I’ve been to Morocco, Tim hasn’t. He’s never been to the Middle East/North Africa region and I think Morocco would be a perfect introduction! He loved the food, history, and culture so I don’t doubt that he will love it. With everything going on in the world and a growing anti-Muslim sentiment here in the Western World a trip to Morocco would be what people would least expect, but if you know us you know we like to show the other side of the coin. Morocco is one of my favorite countries so why not go this year?
Another trip we’ve been wanting to do forever! With a love for Genius and sheep on steep cliffs, Ireland is long overdue for us. We both have so many friends that live on the island that I am almost embarrassed to say we’ve never been before. Exploring old castles, ruins, and embracing Irish culture made this an easy pick for our 2017 Travel Bucket List.
Among my many, many places that I tell Tim “OMG WE SHOULD MOVE HERE!” is Alaska. Maybe it is because I watch too many homesteading shows or because the untammed wild of the state just calls my name. You could even say that I am a Supertramp at heart. No matter what the case, I REALLY really reaaaaaallly want to go to Alaska. I want to see the National Parks that hail in the Great North, see a moose (and be terrified because huge), and I want to feel like I am somewhere that few people have been.
My best friend was living in NYC a few years back and I had planned a trip to see her when our dog Rocky decided to need emergency surgery after eating a rotisserie chicken all on his own. I never got to go see Baby Keish in the Big Apple and Tim has never been so we are adding it to our list. The last time I went was right after 9/11 too and now that the memorial is open I’d really like to go back to the city that never sleeps.
Baby Keish left NYC to go to LA, so naturally I need to go visit my BFF in sunny California! There is so much to do and it doesn’t hurt to have a Hollywood insider to show you around so we are hoping to make it out there to visit. She says there is plenty to do and that traffic is only an issue sometimes.
Horse and buggies, home made everything, and an American culture that is almost lost in time… sign me up! I think it would be amazing to go for Autumn or Winter so maybe this will be one of our tail end trips to 2017. Don’t mind me as I rent a U-haul to bring back allllll the antiques I buy.
We probably won’t be able to take half of these trips, but it is good to dream none the less, right? So here is to a new year, big adventures, and time well spent with a suitcase and a passport. To new places and revisiting the old. 2017, I’ve got big big plans for you!
